The Diocese is a legal faith-based organization established in accordance with the 501C (3) of the U.S internal revenue code and the Minnesota State Church Law (317A) as a diocesan branch of The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church where its Holy Synod is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

 The Diocese, being a hierarchical sub-branch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, its spiritual affairs and administration is governed by the Doctrine, canon, and sacramental laws of The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
